Rabbi Gallinsky Retires

Rabbi Mallen Galinsky, a Musmach of Yeshivat Rabeinu Yaakov Yosef, was graduated from Brooklyn College, received his Masters Degree in Jewish Education at Yeshiva University and did doctoral work at YU’s Bernard Revel Graduate School.

With the sudden demise in January 1956 of his late father, Rav Yehuda Dov Galinsky, z”l, he was called to his pulpit as rabbi of Coney Island’s major congregation Sharei Zedek- Sea Gate Sisterhood and Talmud Torah and as dean of its affiliated Yeshiva Sharei Zedek.

In 1969 Rabbi Galinsky was asked to serve as National Associate Director of the World Zionist Organization’s Department for Torah Education and Culture, American Section. He accepted the offer with the objective of increasing Israel awareness amongst American yeshiva students and heightening and extending the formal Torah study of American high school graduates by creating a Torah study program in Israel for young men and women. He stood at the cradle of what is today an exceptional and impressive phenomenon which has a lasting impact on the students and has had a profound influence upon American Orthodox Jewry.

In 1976 Rav Galinsky made Aliyah answering the call to join Yeshivat Sha’alvim as Dean of the Institute for Overseas Students, and since then has been directing a program which has become synonymous with excellence in Torah education.

The Rabbanim, talmidim, alumni, and friends of Yeshivat Sha’alvim owe a tremendous debt of hakarat hatov to Rabbi Galinsky for decades of mesirut nefesh on behalf of the yeshiva. We are sure that we will continue to benefit from his wisdom and experience and wish Rabbi Galinsky much hatzlacha and brachah ad meah v’esrim.
